Skilled Independent visa
(subclass 482)

This temporary visa allows employers to sponsor a skilled worker for a position that cannot be filled by a suitably skilled Australian

Eligibility 

  • Must be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor

  • Must possess the right skills for the job

  • Must meet the relevant English language requirements

Streams

Short-term Stream

  • Addresses labor shortages by bringing in skilled workers

  • Up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies. Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years

  • From AUD1,455.00

  • Occupation must be on the short-term skilled occupations list

Medium-term Stream

  • Addresses labor shortages by bringing in skilled workers

  • Up to 4 years. Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years

  • From AUD3,035.00

  • Occupation must be on either the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL)

Labour Agreement Stream

  • For skilled workers nominated by employers with a Labour Agreement

  • Up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on the terms in the labour agreement. Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years

  • From AUD3,035.00

  • The employer must have a labor agreement with the Australian government

  • Subsequent Entrant Stream:

  • For family members of subclass 457 and TSS visa holders applying separately to join the primary visa holder in Australia

  • From AUD1,455.00
