Temporary Graduate Visa
(subclass 485)

The Visa 485 is a temporary visa allowing international students to live, study, and work in Australia after completing their studies.

Eligibility 

  • Must be under 50 years of age.

  • Must hold an eligible visa.

  • Should have held a student visa in the last 6 months.

  • Must have a recent qualification from a CRICOS-registered course.

  • Can nominate only one stream; changing visa streams after applying is not possible.

  • Must attach specified evidence during application.

Streams

Graduate Work Stream

  • For students with qualifications relevant to specific occupations Australia needs

  • Duration can be up to 18 months, with certain exceptions allowing up to 24 months or 5 years for specific passport holders

Post-Study Work Stream

  • For students who graduated with a degree from an Australian institution

  • Duration is usually between 2 and 4 years, with some exceptions

Second Post-Study Work Stream

  • For those who graduated from an Australian institution in a regional area

  • Duration varies between 1 and 4 years based on several factors

Replacement Stream

  • For current and former Visa 485 holders who lost time on their original visa due to COVID-19 travel restrictions

  • Duration is usually between 18 months and 6 years
