Partner visa (subclass 820)
This temporary visa allows the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. It's the initial step towards obtaining a permanent Partner visa (subclass 801)
Eligibility

Must be in a genuine relationship with a spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen

Must be sponsored by the spouse or de facto partner

Must be in Australia both when applying for the visa and when the temporary visa application is decided. Family members applying together must also be in Australia
